I thought there was only one person in this world with my personality, and that was myself. It’s almost strange to have someone around who’s so much like you.”Charlie shrugged. “Nah, I don’t need sympathy. I got past all that sympathy junk a long time ago. I just need the clothes on my back, a friend or two, some cigarettes, and I’m good.” She smiled slightly. “Hell, I already know French, so that gets me places.”
Steel smirked. “It’s refreshin’ to see someone who doesn’t feel sorry about themselves all the time. Most if the girls ‘round here are like that.”
“I’m living and breathing, and I have somewhere to sleep at night and food to eat. I have no reason to feel sorry for myself,” Charlie licked her lips, her eyes lit.
“I like the way you think Charlie.” Steel said with a small nod. “So, any guys ‘round here caught your eye? Or have you not met a lot of people?”
Charlie shook her head. “I haven’t met a lot of people. I don’t know. I’ve been told I’m too intimidating, and I can be sort of a bitch sometimes.” She grinned then, wagged her eyebrows up and down. “That’s just the Charlie way, I guess. I’m sure someone around here will get me swooning sooner or later.”
“A bitch?” Steel repeated with a laugh. “Honey, you should see me around people that annoy me. I’m a real bitch then. You seem tamer than a puppy right now, no offence.”
Charlie cocked one eyebrow. “Ever heard of the basic vicious carnivore? They only bite hard when messed with.” Charlie bit down, pretending to bite something, snapping her jaw close then winking, folding her arms.
“Ah, I understand.” Steel said, taking a cigarette out of her pocket and lighting it. “We’re real alike, you and me.”
“It sure is.” Steel agreed with a nod as she exhaled her smoke. “We even look sort of alike if ‘ya think about it.”
Charlie slightly raised her brows, using her lips to tip her cigarette upwards. “Mhm. So we really are twins then, huh?” She eyed her own black waves, knowing she’d always been proud of how she looked, even if it wasn’t in an absorbed way.
